My third week as an intern!

Working life is so damn different from schooling!

I must say that working is really so freaking mundane and it puts you through this tiring cycle during the weekdays.

But the blast of events during the internship is really ... quite horrible with all the saikang, mundane things. I must say, I have learnt quite abit from this experience. Not really humbled, cos I am still screaming and throwing my sarcasm at the back of my head, but learning to have higher EQ and speaking about the right things at the right time!

So now i'm interning at Singapore Pools as a Public Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility Intern, the name is really long and the description is really quite abit - from media relations to public relations to community relations and event management. But well, I hope it can be a very fulfilling 8 months!!

Hopefully, I can write more things about the internship when I am free-ier.

Singapore General Elections 2011

I have always been an enthusiasm in politics after taking up a history module in my first semester in NUS. Following, the history, nature of nation building and politics in Singapore has been a controversial matter in my head.

This year marks my first voting chance and I casted my first vote for the Tampines GRC at St, Hilda's. The experience was rather interesting I must say! Although it was short, swift and simple. From the news, I heard that there were people who made the effort to queue at least half an hour before the opening to cast their votes! KIASU or what?!

The time frame to vote is between 9am to 8pm! They sure do reflect the "Singapore" spirit. Ouch! I feel that Singaporeans are just the product of our "nanny" state and there are so many issues pertaining to this year's elections that I have. Every single nitty gritty problems, they blame on the state. Hello? The number of litter bins, mas selemat's escape, lift upgrading etc etc etc is not solely the ministers' and GRCs' liability.  Singaporeans please WAKE UP! STOP BEING SO EMBARRASSING and tarnish our reputation. UGH! I wonder how will other people think if they knew about Singapore's political environment.

Be it the raving and drama of the oppositions' rallies, to the complacent and nonchalant PAPs, to the ungratefulness of Singaporeans and the influx of the use of media as a mouthpiece of opposing the PAP.

I think the political environment in Singapore is getting from bad to worst and I really hope that majority of the Singaporeans will cast the right and accurate vote to safeguard all of our interest.

I am watching closely to the media reports (albeit not exactly neutral) and there are many concerns of the social media (ie facebook/twitter/tumblr/blogs); I feel that it is overestimated and exceeded. "Chatter online", more like anonymous hypocrites going on and on about their anti-PAP sentiments.

I am part of the 2.2 million voters who will shape Singapore's reign for the next 5 years. I must say, I have been in a dilemma, but I believe that I have made the right choice.

The elections have been quite a huge thing to me as its something that my father is extremely concerned about. I really missed him from today's experience. I have even dreamt of him pertaining to the subject matter. (;
I asked him "so daddy who will you vote for this elections?" and he told me "definitely PAP because..... (cannot rmb)" Daddy, I so miss you. ); I was feeling quite upset because in the polling card its just me and mummy's names and not his.

P.S  I dun think that the dream has any affect on my vote!

Its a beautiful night, we're looking for something dumb to do..

I think I want to marry you. How trivial. I think after my first two exams I have totally slacked it off with very minimal studying as though I have owned the world. I am so disappointed with the amount that I am putting in and how i ever procrastinate with the long list of "things to do" and ended up with only completing about half expected.

Oh well well.....
This is so disappointing.

I am quite scared about my CAP plummeting this semester instead of the initial deans list thingy that I have hoped for. Ugh the first core paper did not go well and the open book elective went so-so. I am just holding on to the trust of the bell curve believing that I am a tad above the cut and the rest.

There and there again, every time during exams I will feel the pent up emotions and feelings to burst into writing where I will come to my secret hideout for a string of rant.

I have so may wants in my head now );

Raindrops keep falling on my head.

I just realized that I have been neglecting this space of mine for quite a while. Its has been long and hectic since my father's demise.

And all that I have been doing is just trying to catch up with life and school work since I've missed out quite abit. School has been a toil. I haven been an avid mugger like how I wanted it to be but I think I will do alright. (; Just that I dun know if my wish of getting on the dean's list would be fulfilled.

I've been thinking about it alot. It is like how we always say that our lives is just like a checklist, everytime we pass some point in our lives, we check whatever that we have accomplished and go on to check the others. Some of the check lists in my life include: getting on deans list, get a good job, earn big bucks, get married extravagantly, have kids, get my kids into the best school, get a luxurious car and house, make sure my kids are the elites of the society, retire young, die gloriously.

Ouch. Thats about life isn't it.
So superficial. So boring. Its not one of a kind.

So now: DEANS LIST IS THE ONE AND ONLY GOAL IN MY LIFE. till i meet it.
Exams start tomorrow. Start your engines, ladies and gentlemen.

Christmas

Its the day of the year again!!

Everytime this year, my friends and I will really fret over what to do. When I was a tad younger, I will always think of partying, booze and party games. But now, it is the nitty gritty stuff that really gets to me. The options for a splendid christmas party seems really limited.

Firstly, we have to account for the number of people attending the party.
It is all about acommodation! Friends will have family dinners on the eve of christmas. But for my family, we will have a traditional christmas dinner on the day itself. The hype of christmas eve is about counting down, which I think is pretty pointless. But I really like to be in the atmosphere of christmas!!

"JINGLE BELLS, JINGLE BELLS, JINGLE ALL THE WAYYYYY!"

Secondly, VENUE! I think it is really difficult to find a good place for everyone to be comfortable. As we grow older, we realise that our friends gets lesser and increasingly, people start getting attached and their partners will come along to the parties for christmas. Then the venue dictates the activities planned. If we are gonna have a house party the host, food, activities and atmosphere has to be to the point in order to reduce any tinge of awkwardness and etc among the guests.

Thirdly, the activities prior to the countdown. That includes the food and games. That is normally the major question because due to late exams and countless trainings in schools, no one would offer to take the lead to plan. Most of the time, this results in a PHAILED party.

ANYWAY...............
To prevent all the above from happening, I would suggest to leave to the professionals to plan your lovely christmas! So leaving the house party alone and indulging in the outdoor atmosphere at a good, nice, small quaint restaurant followed by a mini party at a bar or a less crowded club would do just fine. But on the flipside, the this would result in a smaller wallet.

Whether a house party or an extravangant one, just remember.....

As much as we want to celebrate christmas perfectly, I guess we cannot forget the notion and traditions of christmas. It is to celebrate the birth of christ. (; I will try to make it a point to celebrate my christmas mornings at church.

I really love singing christmas carols and happy jingles during the festive season!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

Oysters.

I can just sit in front of the television watching programmes after programmes. I hate it when I just fixate to the food channels on cable. It is so tempting!!!

FRESH OYSTERS!!

I really love fresh oysters! Freshly shucked! With a dash of lemon and tobasco. Freaking orgasmic!
I really love how the flavours of the really plump oyster burst in your mouth. It explodes the taste of seafood and freshness one can never imagine.

There are different varieties of oysters definitely! From those that come from Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Honestly, I cannot really tell the difference in the taste of these oysters but the Canadian oysters are plumpier. Gah, I'm happy with any!

Baked oysters fluorentine with creamy cheese is also a to-die-for appetizers. Screw the fact that it contains high cholesterol and high fat. Respect for my oysters!

I am so craving for it in the longest time!

Budget Shopping

There was this period of time I was like a budget barbie only buying clothes which are less than 10bucks! I can totally relate to Qiuqiu's videos on clicknetwork! Haha!

http://www.clicknetwork.tv/watch.aspx?c=3&p=25&v=432

This is her Episode on Prom.
I think young girls can really check out her videos because she can really find the best haunts in every shop!

I feel that clothes can be bought from cheap places such as:

1) Bugis Street : The clothes there range from 10 bucks to 20 odd.

2) City Plaza : Most people do wholesale exporting there. If you buy more than 3 clothes, the clothes are at wholesale prices!

3) Fareast Plaza : Actually the clothes are not exactly that cheap, but well, cheaper than the branded stuff out there.

4) Chinatown : There are a few shops at chinatown that sells cheap accessories and clothes! And they are cheap and rather unique too!

Besides these 3 places, I guess you can find rather cheap and decent clothes such as This Fashion.

Alright, but I do not support an entire outfit of being a cheapo! I think that while we can compromise on clothes because we must constantly change them, we have to invest in a certain number of accessories such as :

-branded bags
-branded shoes
-branded accessories

I think it will in all complete the look. (;

Girls should learn to love themselves, dun indulge in cheaponess although thrifty is a virtue.
But overspending and being an ultimate shopaholic is also excessive.
So the ultimate conclusion is to be moderate in shopping!

To-Do List.

Exams in the local universities is a huge obstacle. In NUS, NTU and SMU, students go frenzy during the exam time.

For the humble me, I realised that I always have big dreams during the exams time. Then when it is completely over, I will feel the sense of void. Ahems, like how it is now.

BECAUSE MY EXAMS JUST ENDED!!

This is my TO-DO list for post-exams...

1) To set up a public domain to blog
2) Do up a concise resume
3) Start doing up my port folio
4) Hunt for possible scholarships and money for my future studies - especially for my masters!
5) Strict diet and exercise regime to lose weight
6) Odd jobs for cash
7) Plan for a 3day2night camp with BFF
8) Beauty regimes to glam up my bad complexion
9) Think of my future and priorities - including future modules
10) Plan for my 22nd birthday

How about you? Have you thought of what you want to do after the exams?
(;

Taos Restaurant

My first post will be dedicated to this restaurant which I feel that is superduper value for money!

Taos Restaurant

Tucked in the basement of paradiz centre alongside with its sister restaurant, Juju restaurant, Taos has a superb 6-course lunch and 7-course dinner. I would go for the lunch because the menu does not differ much and the price for the set lunch is slightly cheaper.

From appetizers to salads to soups; main entree to dessert; there is dessert too!
Although the selection is rather limited, I feel that i is still worth it for the food that you are getting!

First up for the universal appetizer which is the bacon and mushroom gratin served with warm bread.

There is a selection of beverages including fruit teas. Personally, I like the apple and grapefruit tea the most!

I really love the pumpkin soup! It is creamy with the tinge of pumpkin puree. I know pumpkin soup is a rare choice but do try it, I really like it! There is a choice of chinese soup probably to suit the palate of the older crowd.

For the main course, we will usually order the bake flounder which is baked dory with cheese. I know it sounds ordinary but it tastes superb with cheese and mayo! It is not a "wow!" factor but well, I think for the price that we are paying, they did a great job.

Another favourite would be the slow cooked pork back ribs. The flavour is so intense with the sauce that it tastes heavenly together. A great choice!

Desserts! The last time I went, they had a selection of fondue and brownie. But some items in the menu were taken out and replaced. We had the tiramisu and the chocolate brownie with ice-cream.

Taos restaurant is not a to-die-for restaurant. But I feel that the food fits well with the concept of bringing affordable six to seven course meal to the people. Great choice for a casual date, a family dinner or a day out with your friends and loved ones!

Lunch is 19.80 ++
Dinner is 29.80 ++
(:
